Frequently Asked Questions

What is a family medicine resident?

A family medicine resident is a licensed doctor who is completing a 2-year (or longer) family medicine training program. They act as your family doctor while working under the close supervision of teaching physicians at the GMF‑U.

Are my care and treatments always supervised?

Yes. Residents are guided by teaching physicians and are part of an interdisciplinary team. They regularly review cases with supervisors to ensure the quality and continuity of care.

What happens if my resident is absent (hospital, vacation, etc.)?

The team of residents and learners ensures the continuity of your care. If your resident completes their training or works elsewhere, another resident will take over your file. In any case, you remain officially registered with a teaching physician at the GMF‑U.

Can I have an a minor emergency appointment with a resident?

Yes, if you are registered with a resident (or doctor or nurse practitioner), you can access the minor emergency clinic for a consultation. A member of the clinical team will be able to see you promptly.

Who can contribute to my care beyond the resident?

Le suivi se fait en approche interdisciplinaire : infirmières cliniciennes, infirmières auxiliaires, IPSPL, travailleurs sociaux, psychologue, physiothérapeutes peuvent être référés selon vos besoins pour un suivi complet.

What is the added value of participating in a GMF‑U like La Pommeraie?

In addition to providing you with accessible, high-quality primary care, this type of GMF‑U helps train motivated and well-supervised residents, benefiting both the next generation of medical professionals and the local community.

What is a GMF-U?

It is a University Family Medicine Group. In addition to providing medical care, we train the next generation of healthcare professionals (medical residents, medical students in their clinical rotations, nurse practitioners, etc.) in a supervised setting.

How do I make an appointment at the clinic?

You can make an appointment by calling 450-466-4296 during the scheduling center’s opening hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These hours may vary on public holidays.

Can I come to the clinic without an appointment?

Yes, but only for urgent and minor situations, subject to availability. Minor Emergency slots are reserved each day for registered patients. You must call the same day to get a spot by calling 450-466-4296 starting at 8:30 a.m.

What services are offered at the clinic?

We provide comprehensive medical care: health check-ups, chronic disease management, mental health, minor surgery, contraception, screenings, nursing care, psychosocial support, and more.

Can I see a healthcare professional other than a doctor (e.g., nurse, social worker)?

Yes. Our interdisciplinary approach allows multiple professionals to support you according to your needs. We will ensure you are assigned to the right professional for your situation.

I don’t have a family doctor. Can I come to the clinic?

Our services are primarily offered to registered patients. However, some one-time events, such as women’s health clinics, screening programs, and contraceptive services, are open to the general public.

What should I do if I have a health problem outside of opening hours?

You can call Info-Santé at 811 to speak with a nurse. In case of an emergency, go to the nearest hospital.

Are there any fees for certain services?

Some services not covered by the RAMQ may incur fees (e.g., forms, medical documents). The professional will inform you.

Can I be accompanied during my appointment?

Yes, you can be accompanied by a loved one, especially if it helps you better understand the information or feel more at ease.
